The French Stock Exchange

8:20 AM

Earlier last week Pascal had extended an invitation to us to join him on Saturday in going to "the market". Since Pascal speaks mainly French, we had spent some time getting across the idea of going somewhere that I didn't think to ask where or what kind of market it was exactly. So that Saturday we rode in the car through the scenic countryside of the Loire Valley to what turned out to be an antique market in Montsoreau. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised!

The city sits on the edge of where La Vienne river meets the Loire river, so Pascal took us through a walk of nearby park before heading up to traverse the stalls on the streets. All the sellers had displayed their antiques on the stone banks of river, so it made for an interesting market nestled between water and city. After Zach picked out a pocket knife to replace his lost multi-tool, I asked about the prices (all in French!) and we walked away with a totally funcitonal rosewood and gold encased pocket knife for $10. Not so bad!

And after all the walking we decided to cool down with a drink and a quick lesson on how to say "cheers" in French.

So "À la vôtre!" to you all,
H W Z
