Old Bidlake Farm

As usual, we're running a bit behind on the blog so you are all just going to have to live in the past a bit with us while we reminisce about our stay at Old Bidlake Farm. This WorkAway was a bit different than the others because we were only staying for a week and we were their first ever WorkAwayers. A little intimidating, because in that Midwestern way of wanting to please we now wanted them to like us and to like WorkAway. It was a worry that faded quickly though, because Sue and Nick were so kind and welcoming to us. Plus Zach and I are great brand ambassadors.

Even with our help, Sue and Nick having been doing an awesome job with running their glampground (that's glamorous camping for you folks back home). It's cozy in all the right ways with a touch of vintage flare that made me feel right at home whether in our little caravan or in the communal kitchen. It's a nice balance between glamping and traditional camping, because while you stay in lovely bell tents on a real and soft bed, you open your tent door to the beautiful rolling countryside, cook on a rocket stove, and watch the shooting stars at night. All the benefits of camping really, with the promise of a good night's sleep at the end.

Since this was a running glampground, we had two sets of guests stay while we were there. Sue later told us that their season only lasts for a few months during the summer, so they really book up around then. We met a few people out of the first group, a family affair led by the husband and wife who emigrated to England from South Africa to be with their children and grandchildren but they only stayed for a weekend. Since we arrived on Saturday, by Monday they were off, sweetly honking their horns and waving goodbye to us when we left.

The next group in were staying for a week, a few families brought together because their girls all went to the same school. There were about five little ones in all and once their eyes found Winry, it was instant love. Every day they would come over to visit her in the morning and were always delighted to see her when she would turn up randomly at other points in the day. They would even wave and yell "Hi Winry!" when running by our caravan to the bathroom and once we received a little card with a hand drawn dog and the text "I love you Winry." Eventually they showed up one morning with a bag of treats and sweetly asked if they could give her some. It was so cute there was no way we were going to say no.

Zach and I discussed it later, and while we're having a really great time on this trip and a had an amazing time at Old Bidlake Farm, it's definitely Winry that's getting the most out of it. Our little trip ambassador.
