Czech-ing In with the Doctor*

9:26 AM

So, I need to write a PSA to all our readers before we continue with the rest of this post. There are more puns ahead. Yes, worse than the title. Zach has prided himself on writing the majority of post titles and when he thinks of them he laughs for a minute straight before he tells me what they are. You've been warned.

*What's the Prague-nosis?**

After a week long foray into the Polish mountains to teach English to Polish speakers (Hey you lovely new readers!), we took off to Prague for a little sight-seeing before heading to our last hosts. Yes, our very last hosts on this trip! We had shot right up to Poland after our stay in Austria and now that we were heading back to Austria, we thought we'd slow it down a bit and stop to see this city on our way. Unfortunately, the Wi-fi at the hotel we stayed at in Poland was terrible so Zach wasn't able to finish a lot of his assignments. Since he's on the last week of his semester, this meant a huge build up of assignments, readings and essays to be finished. Thus our exploring had to be kept to a minimum so Zach could have time to write. Though we allotted ourselves a few hours to tour the city.

**It's Praha-bly nothing.***

All the buildings in Prague are magnificent, but the astronomical clock tower is especially beautiful. Every hour, on the hour, the clock rings out in a series of chimes and the figures on the side move to the tones. This lasts for maybe a minute but still manages to pull in a huge crowd every time.

***It turns out it was Koruna-ry problems****

That's Charles Bridge in English for you all. I was really excited for this city especially because I had listened to an audio-book Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Prague was the setting. This bridge was actually the backdrop to a few important scenes too. The book is labeled fantasy, so I knew some of the ethereal descriptions were to set the scene but it does have the feel of a city that has something fantastical lurking in the shadows.****Because I ate too much cole-Slavic*****

Some cities have great landmarks or must-sees when you visit but Prague has so much beautiful architecture that if you really want to experience the city all you need to do is walk around. Every corner we turned there was a new statue to greet us, a hand-carved etching in a wall to peak our interest. We loved being surround by baroque style buildings and spent most of the time just pointing out the details we loved (Look at the dome on that one! But these carvings over here!) Near the end of our walk, Zach turned to me and held out his hand to shake.

"Let's promise to come back here one day."

Promise.
