The Last Day

11:13 AM

It feels weird to write. Our last day here in Pescia. It seemed like we arrived here yesterday. Young, innocently unaware of bramble and how it stretches to the depths of hell (more on that later). Yet here we are, less than twenty days later packing our things and planning for the 9:12 train tomorrow morning.

Nature decided to see us off right as there was a solar eclipse this morning. It was only a 70% eclipse but it's more than what we would have seen in the US, so trip accomplished. Stuart McGuyver'ed a solar eclipse viewer to save us all the trouble of going blind, though if both Zach and I were being honest we totally looked.

We watched the circles on the wrapping paper for awhile then started on our very last day of work (here at least). Today we constructed cold frames for Helen and Stuart to start their vegetables patches early. They'll fit right into the garden beds we've been spending all week making and give the seedlings some protection from cold until things can really get going in the spring. They're effectively mini, moveable greenhouses.

All work for us and all play for the dogs, who spent the sunshine chasing each other around and tearing off the layers of pinecones. For all the fighting and wrestling and times she tried barking to tell him off, Winry will definitely miss Reggie. I know because he sweetly gave her a few kisses on the head the other day and she proceeded to steal his pinecone.

Sir Reginald!

Off to France,
