Adventures in London

8:13 AM

This past weekend we were able to visit our friend Kristen and Shelly (yes, the same from Rambouillet!) while they were on holiday in London. While big cities are usually pretty spendy, we were able to find our way around it by getting cheap bus tickets and having our host watch Winry for the weekend. Seriously, you would not believe the prices for pet-friendly accommodation in this country. While we sat out on some of the more expensive tourist options like the London Eye, there was plenty to walk around and see and most of all we were just super pumped to spend time with friends.

We started our our full day of being tourists on Monday with a good start: together we were a beacon of America dressed in red, white, and blue. Completely unplanned. Like our coordinated outfits, we didn't have a plan for the day, so any idea that popped into our heads we decided to follow. We've wandered into the best things this way and this time was no different as we somehow we found ourselves watching the guard change at Buckingham palace.

It's always a curious sight to see a crowd gather and the addition of selfie-sticks only elevated the gathering to absurdity. At one point we all joked that the best way to get a good shot would just to find the person with the highest resolution iPad resolution and photograph their screen. Being naturally tall just isn't a good advantage anymore.

Our next destination was an outdoor market that Kristen wanted to get lunch at, but with all the time in the world on our hands we decided to do some wandering through the parks first.

Though I have to say, while all of the service people in London were outstanding and extremely helpful, most people we came in contact with were rude and almost insulting. I had a few gruff run-ins with bartenders and waitstaff at restaurants and Shelly told us at the end of the day that she had often heard people hear us talking and then mocking our accents. It was curious since we've only been welcomed kindly everywhere else in the UK. Perhaps Londonites are getting a little cross with America's Independence Day coming up?

Sorry not sorry,

  1. We never go to London.
And now you've just reminded us why.
    Too many morons.
    Keep smiling!

    1. My only regret is not catching them trying to do an American accent, must have been quite the laugh ;)
