Oh the Animals You'll Meet

1:35 PM

When we decided on traveling across Europe and taking Winry with us, we knew there would be a lot of new things for her to encounter. New things to pee on, new dog butts to sniff and new faces to lick but as for the wide range of animals she was destined to meet, that was a surprise. For the majority of our trip we stayed in a range of places, from secluded locales to suburban neighborhoods, and took on rennovation or basic gardening projects. There are hundreds of farms listed on our volunteer websites, but for some reason they never found their way into our preferred hosts list.

Six months into our trip and it was time for the farm experience and with it all the animals Winry would never have dreamed existed. This little Austrian farm had a whole range of new fuzzy friends for Winry to meet, bark at, and then avoid for the rest of the stay. There were two dalmatians to settle her in, then a few cats to test her patience, one horse and one pony to side eye, a flock of chickens and turkeys to ignore, and finally three cows to puzzle over (they're not horses... but they're not dogs?). A few weeks in and we had successfully de-conditioned Winry from barking at the horses and mostly the cow and she seemed to pay no mind to the other animals, though her interest in the cats would still erupt in chase sporadically. Once all of this had settled, the chickens decided to throw us all a curveball  and out hatched four little chicks. We took upon ourselves to be their housekeepers which landed Winry with the new title of babysitter. Though looking back at the pictures, maybe that wasn't the best idea...

Luckily Winry was racked by indecision on whether to eat the little fluff balls, so they remained unscathed by the time we left. As we run out the rest of the time on the clock for our trip, the chances of Winry meeting any other new animals are pretty slim. So when we get back to the U.S. who wants to loan us their hamster?
